SIS May/June Issue is Out!

The May/June 2026 issue of Ships in Scale brings together one of our most varied lineups yet — from the ultra-precise world of 1/700 Napoleonic warships to a beginner-friendly HMS Beagle plank-on-bulkhead build, with plenty in between.

Linus Spjutsberg opens with a deep dive into resin Age of Sail modeling at miniature scale, while George Athanasiou walks newer modelers through hull planking and copper plating with characteristic clarity. Scott Himowitz continues his 1/200 RC HMS Hood build, Thomas Koehl takes his WWII Harbor Defense Motor Launch above decks, and Ian McLaughlan examines sail plans, sweeps, and gun arrangements in his ongoing minor warships series.

Scott Bradner’s research into clipper ship livestock pens is one of those pieces that makes you look at a familiar vessel in a completely new way. Robert Hunt delivers a frank assessment of the Artesania Latina Anatomy HMS Victory kit, and TR Mayer takes us aboard his stunning 1:12 Coast Guard utility boat.

Rounding out the issue: Greg Baumgartner walks through coppering a hull in the Shipwright’s Apprentice, we have full coverage of the 43rd Annual Northeast Ship Model Conference, and a Scuttlebutt conversation with fourteen-year-old scratch builder Caelan McCormick — proof that the next generation of ship modelers is already at the bench.

And our 2026 Kit Manufacturer Survey is still open — tell us which manufacturers deliver and which need to do better.
